My wife and I were looking to kill some time and decided to check out Grotons local coffee shop, Salt & Light. It has a California-meets-Massachusetts vibe which I quite enjoyed. The look reminds of places either in the city or California where it is brighter with a fresh-yet-rustic look. At the counter, you are met by IPads on Square registers and a menu that has a little for everyone. Looking for your basic pancakes and waffles, they have it. Want something unique like the dish my wife got, an open-faced BLT with pesto and over-easy eggs, they also have it. They also have books and a chess board that visitors can enjoy while they wait for their food or kill time. The food was excellent, so much so that my wife went back a week later with her mom to show her the great café we had found. Worth visiting if you are in the area.

In February 2009, Main Street Cafe was taken over by new owners who instituted some immediate improvements and have plans for further enhancements. The place got an immediate cleaning and freshening; it now is reminiscent of a French bistro. The first menu item to improve was the coffee. The menu has been broadened considerably, and now includes quiches, crepes, and ice cream for those coming in from the nearby bike path. Full breakfast is available every day, at last! The cafe is open from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm daily (from 7:00 on weekends). The 4-star review is given in view of the cafes promise and potential. Give it a try.

DO NOT MISS A CHANCE TO EAT HERE. The menu is inventive and exciting with very affordable options for breakfast and lunch. I loved that my omelette came with field greens! And I cannot wait to have the braised pork sandwich again. There are also small pastries and sweets which are perfect for young children. The atmosphere is both invigorating and calming. You can sit on comfy couches and catch up with a friend or tuck away in a corner with your laptop. I cant wait to go back again and again and again. What an asset to our town!

The food is terrific. Though the service is slow if you chose to sit down, the prices are low and the staff is constantly busy. Id be more annoyed at slow service if i saw the staff sitting and talking, but I never saw them move slower then full tilt. Besides it is not a waiter/waitress kind of place, it is a serve yourself, informal place. Great to grab a salad and sit with a book or computer and get some work done.

I frequently stop here for a bite to eat on a bike ride. If this place was half as bad as these reviews say, then it wouldnt be so busy. They serve good coffee and pastries. The service is a bit slow, I think they need someone to help them organize the workflow playing counter. Other than that, perfectly good food stop. Ive probably eaten there more than 20 times myself.

breakfast recently..local place on main st, nicely appointed though smallish, some comfortable seating scattered about, order and pay at the counter and your meal is delivered to your table, we both had omelets which were good but nothing exceptional, service was pleasant....nice local place, good food..

Excellent restaurant, excellent coffee house. Chef & staff are great, attentive. Some of the best food in the area. I moved away and after several months was visiting, of course we stopped here, and they had kept an envelope with $40 that my ditsy wife left by accident. Totally awesome in every way!

Only one word: FILTHY VERY DIRTY AND STICKY tables and chairs, filthy floors, smelly, no air filtration system you get out of there and smell like food head to toes. The food is good but it feel disgusting eating it in such an environment. I wonder how clean is their kitchen...........EEEWWWWWWWWW

This place does a great breakfast and lunch! Menu has plenty to select from and seems to rotate on a steady basis with new options. Atmosphere is relaxed, plenty of seating & seems to bring in a decent amount of volume. You order up front, find a seat and theyll bring you your meal and drinks.

Great sandwiches and apps, I recommend the food. Espresso drinks are average, but seem more consistent than blackbird. Biggest downside id that here is a constant haze of smoke because their fume hood over the range vents inside not outside. Please vent it outside!

Love this place and enjoy coming here for breakfast during the week. Pretty busy and hard to get a table at peak times, but the coffee and food are well worth the wait. Young chef and staff are great and welcoming. Look forward to going back again and again.

Great coffee, friendly service, and a real commitment to the town of Groton. The Coleman family has brought culinary skills and an imaginative approach to the building that once was the Main Street Cafe and Moisons Hardware over the prior 50+ years.

Outside of the parking, cant complain about this place. Wouldnt go out of my way, but Ive had some bagels there twice that were decent. Looking at some of the dishes served at other tables, I wouldnt mind eating here again next time Im in Groton.

The new Roots Cafe gives the space a much more open feeling with the addition of lounging furniture and removal of diner-style refrigerators out front. Great menu, staff is well trained to make good coffee (and the pricing reflects this).

Great local eating spot with friendly staff who take a great interest in the community. The egg dishes are great, bagels are good, salads are good and the dinners they offer during the music nights and open mikes are wonderful. Very clean!

Doesnt seem like the cleanest place and last time that I went there I was not pleased with the service. I seemed to be inconveniencing them to take care of my order. Coffee was good.

Spectacular food. My only regret is not having a big enough belly to fit more in one sitting. Delish for sure!
