Horrible food. After reading these good reviews, it sounded great, something nice to finally have on this trip. Wrong. Im not sure if ownership has changed but the food is now HORRIBLE. I ordered a Beef Teriyaki & Shrimp Tempura Bento box. The Tempura had shrimp about as small as cocktail shrimp inside batter that was not at all flaky and about 3 times as thick as it should have been, also very greasy taste to it. It looked like it came out of a freezer bag. The beef teriyaki was overcooked, flavorless, and rubbery, as if it was cooked in a microwave, also from a freezer bag. The miso soup was clearly from a dehydrated bag (if you know what re-hydrated tofu is like). The bento box also came with a california roll, also HORRIBLE. Fake crab sticks, the avocado was watery mush, and the cucumber was almost chewy. I couldnt even finish one piece. I also unfortunately ordered yellowtail and salmon nigiri. BIG MISTAKE. The fish was horrid. Ive honestly had much, much better fish at a $15 all you can eat sushi joint in the landlocked state of Utah. It was old, gritty textured, clearly frozen for too long, and sitting after, for too long. 2 things. Im Japanese, I know what Japanese food is supposed to be. This was NOT it. There were asians there, however, they were all speaking Chinese. Every Japanese restaurant run by Koreans or Chinese Ive ever been to is, well, TERRIBLE. This was no exception. If you go to a restaurant and the staff isnt speaking Japanese or English, well, just go back out the door somewhere else. I should have. Then after, I went to Wendys and had a better meal since I couldnt eat the garbage I was served at Matsu. Ive never reviewed a restaurant but i felt compelled to do it this time with all the good reviews. I hope this keeps someone from wasting their money and having a terrible meal like I just did. I would have been better off just spending $5 at Wendys.

Its always nice when you order a Japanese beer because youre at a Japanese restaurant, enjoying Japanese food, and the waitress says, hey thats a great beer but its $10 a bottle for all 12oz. Wow, that allows me the opportunity to say, yeah. Thank you. Ill pass on that for now and pick up a 6 pack of Stella on the way home instead. But no, not here. Not at MATSU Japanese Restaurant! When you get the bill and see the waitress failed to mention each 12oz bottle of beer comes a cost of $10 each.... EACH! and you realize that you are $40 bucks into a couple of beers between you and your wife, you will agree that Matsus staff are composed of jerks who are self-serving, scammy, to hell with the customer, let the buck pass people. The tiny rolls are tasty though! I will give them that. Yep, for $34 you can get two Publix or Fresh Market size sushi containers of pretty tasty, almost as good as Fresh Market sushi for only twice the cost! What a deal! Keep in mind there is a wonderful Fresh Market in towson with awesome sushi choices.

We have been to many sushi restaurants and by far Matsu is the very best! Lunch time is the best deal. Unlike two of the reviews on here, we find their sushi prices to be in line with others in the area and actually since we have been going there about 4 years ago we have seen very few prices hiked. Everything is very fresh and the service is top notch. They know our family so well they already know pretty much what we want when we enter the door. Nothing but kudos for them. Lunch time here during the week is busy....much easier to call it in and take it back to your office. Love the atmosphere they have created as well! :)

I have been frequenting Matsu on and off for about a year over my lunch breaks, its the closest place to my work for me to get my sushi fix. Service at Matsu is excellent, its definitely some of the best service you will receive anywhere. The sushi is good and priced quite fairly. Overall this is a very nice place to head to for lunch (or dinner). Despite the restaurant being extremely busy over the lunch rush, the food is prepared extremely quickly and quality doesnt suffer at all. If you are in the area and looking for Japanese cuisine, you should definitely check out Matsu.

I have never had a problem with their Matsus food. It is pretty good. The gentlemen who runs the place is kind but the rest of the staff is unfriendly. I do not appreciate the way I am treated, there customers are viewed as burdensome as soon as they walk in the door. When asked when I wanted to keep my plate of food and I the customer had responded yes, I got an attitude from the waitress. Alsodidntt even try to be discrete when they discussed our table as well as others. I am bringing this place business and being treated in a rude manner, I will not be returning.

Was craving sushi while I was in town and this was the nearest place and it had good reviews. Its a very small place (I drove past it at first), but I was warmly greeted and seated quickly at a table. The menu is quite extensive, but all I wanted was sushi, so I went with the sushi rose which gets you 16 pieces for $21, which is a really good deal, plus you get Miso soup and salad with a tasty house dressing. The server was attentive and almost too polite. The sushi was delicious and I savored every bite. Highly recommended this place!
