Decided to try this place for restaurant week. $45/head is a bit steep but thought the menu looked good and they claimed to be all about the beef. Ambiance in the bar/restaurant was nice, we had a window seat where we could see the U.S. customs house. Very beautiful restaurant, even if it is crammed in the lobby of the hotel. I was surprised that a domestic beer was $8.50 - didnt realize I was at an NFL game- but okay. The bread to start with was delicious, many different types. With soft spreadable butter. Our appetizers were good we had the French onion which was a tad on the salty side but delicious. And the blue crab soup that was amazing For entree my wife had the tuna tower that was amazingly beautiful as well as delicious. Because Im a big meat Snob - ordered the ribeye. The reason I took off stars is because they claim to be all about their beef- except when it comes to restaurant week meats. I dont care if a steak is prime , a cow is still going to have tough parts and gristle. Parts of the steak were like butter and how ribeye steak should be. Others were like chewing a mouthful of gummy bears. I woulda rathered the gummy bears. I cook a lot of steak at home, and when youre leaving a restaurant thinking , "the ribeye I cooked last week was better than this". Doesnt justify the cost. Then dessert was pretty good. A banana bread pudding with ice cream and caramel drizzle. Again, It may have been due to restaurant week and them buying the cheapest prime cut, but the steak wasnt that great. No one yet has beaten Halls Chophouse in Charleston, in my opinion. Only time Ive left wondering how they cooked my steak cause it was delicious (besides Emerils Delmonicos in NOLA).

Rip off. Went for restaurant week. My chopped Caesar salad was abysmal. Whatever happened to anchovies in a nice Caesar salad? I found little bits of some processed meat instead. My friend had the crab soup, which was okay. I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium. What good is prime beef if you cant cook it right? The waiter recommended the port wine reduction sauce, which i tried with a couple of bites of steak and then left alone (add another $5 to the tab). The banana bread pudding was good for dessert, but nothing that couldnt be had for a cheaper price elsewhere. It took about 15 minutes to settle the bill after we finished dessert. This rubbed me a little raw after seeing the mandatory 20% gratuity included in my bill, which isnt obvious on the credit card signature slip. I could do without having my table crumbed if you would bother to pick up my credit card. It looked like our waiter had more tables than he should have, probably because of restaurant week. Im guessing they use restaurant week as an excuse for poor service, but Ill never know for sure because Im not going back. Bottom lime: From the over-sized menus to the overpriced drinks, this place is pretentious, lame, and overpriced. Skip it and walk to one of the many great places down the street.

Awful experience and never ever again. Bad service and stuffy crew. My husband and I were celebrating our 17th anniversary. We typically go to Charleston, SC to celebrate over the weekend. We stay at the Charleston Place but decided to try something new. We made dinner reservations for 8:30 at the restaurant. We get to there at 8:30 and we were told that there is a 20 minute wait because they were running behind. At 9:00 we were told that they are just waiting to get a a booth. At 9:15, the hostess was just trying to avoid us. At 9:35, we finally get seated by the hostess who had an attitude and scowl on her face. We did not get a booth that we were promised. We asked to see the manager to express our experience with the wait and hostess. Manager tells us that we it is what it is and that things just got behind. Finally eat at 10:30. Pasta was bland. We never got asked if we wanted refills on our wine/drinks. Did not get offered dessert. Dishes stayed until we finally got our check. Check comes and they overcharged us for a dish we never ate. Our waiter can not be found. Finally got another waiters attention. Another "suit" comes and give us the adjusted bill. At 11:35 the ordeal was over.

I travel all over, eating at everywhere from momnpops to sixty dollar restaurants such as this, Let me just say this THE best example of gentlry-ed dining Ive yet to experience; this will set the bar for every other restaurant I go to from now on. Atmosphere: beautiful; wide open, relaxing; even being near the kitchen I heard no loud noises. Service: Hand and foot. literally. I just looked in their direction and they were asking me if i need anything. Unlike many many upper tier restaurants, I did not get a single snooty comment only suggestions on what would taste good with what. Food: Best ribeye Ive had, cooked with a charred crunch thats to die for, delivered sooner then i expected with the sides of bread being interesting and varied for anyone whos first time in charleston. If you are a tourist in sandles and a Hawaiian shirt with expectation of eating like you would at mcdonalds, this is not your restaurant. If you expect to act and be treated like a formal gentleman/lady you will be; this includes salad fork vs dinner fork, why there are so many glasses on the table (wine toasting etc) Have fun with it and enjoy charlestons best...

Waste of time and money. It was my 40th birthday and my husband and friends took me to Grill 225. We couldnt have been more disappointed. 5 out of 5 of us had bad food. The side items were flavorless and the potatoes came out cold. But the worst was the meat. A $54 steak should be tender and juicy. All of us had tough and chewy meat. Very poor quality. Publix has better meat. Mine was undercooked and my husbands was overcooked. He told the waiter it was dry and the waiter said, "you should have told me earlier and I could have looked at it." Seriously??? That was not customer service. There was no attempt to fix it or apologize. The food was over priced for such poor quality. Dont go and waste your money. So far I have never been disappointed at Oak or The Peninsula Grill. Always good and great service. We were driving home hungry and my husband pulled into Outback. He said you are getting a steak on your birthday. We had better steaks at Outback than Grill 225. I had a good birthday dinner, thanks to Outback.

We love this place, usually eat there once or twice a year. Very disappointed on our last visit on Valentines day. We took the kids (first time for that) and were looking forward to a great Valentines day meal. The food was great as usual but it is amazing how the wait staff can really effect your overall experience. The waiter was barely cordial, he copped an attitude right off the bat when I asked if we could venture off the pre set menu, we werent made aware of this when we made a reservation. The kids (13 and 16) were not really enthused by the tuna tartar and probably wouldnt have gotten a salad so the 4 course meal was overkill for them. No big deal, I can live with that. But he just appeared as though he was doing us a favor by allowing us to dine with him! Nothing I can actually pinpoint, it was almost uncomfortable though. Needless to say it was not the most pleasant dining experience. We were disappointed.
