Poor service. Their dishes they put on the table do not match those described nor displayed on their sites and menu. Its even worse when you order for take out. It doesnt matter how many people theyre catering to, the things they send over are poorly arranged and always are missing sides, sauces, and ingredients that are included with the dish i.e. Theyll send plain salads with no dressing. Only an issue because its not what theyre advertising. The youngest waiter always seems bored and annoyed if you ask him for things like a glass of water. Theyre always on the floor on their laptops. Its almost awkward to interrupt them. Not welcoming at all. I think the waitress is the most approachable. The more Ive gone, the worse service has become. I remember sitting at the table waiting for a glass of water I asked for early in the begining. It didnt show up even though the waitress asked and I reminded her several times. I got tired of answering the same question, so I left without it. I wasnt the only one, the lady next to me was also awkwardly trying to get her attention, her husband got the wrong dish. The main waiter came over to sort it out; ended up trying to convice the man that that dish was indeed the one he ordered. It wasnt. The waiter (possibly already in a bad mood) took the dish away to make the man the dish he ordered in the first place. Poor man. On my last visit, I finally got my glass of water, but unluckily for me, the glass came marked with a nasty green sludge print of the lips of who ever used the glass before me. My friend talked me into telling the waiter (I didnt want to because of whats happened before ) who almost looked annoyed (ofcourse) and peeved as if I got some old green sludge from who knows where to mark his glass and ruin his day. My friend agreed, he does always seem to be annoyed. Described him as a "sangron". I dont think Ill be coming back to this location for the main resons that the waiters are always moody, the service is astonishingly poor, theres no consistancy on what comes out from the kitchen to what is advertised on their menu and sites. And ofcourse the level of care that goes into properly cleaning their plates, glassware and silverware for their guests is questionable. Also, I think theyve switched waiters, just for the reason that the food was so much better put together end of last year compared to what it is now. but that I do not know for sure. If youre looking for amazing peruvian food and outstanding proper service, I highly recommend Mancora (also on el camino but more north than andes) or Mi Lindo Perú in San Francisco. Even Fusion in b street in the evenings is a nice little spot. I hope this was helpful. Happy eatings.

I came here for my birthday dinner last week and I was not disappointed at all! We had 7pm reservations on a Wednesday and there were kind of a lot of people there. Luckily they had valet, which was quick, so parking was easy. Our waitress was very sweet and served us really quickly. We started off with the Ceviche as an appetizer which was really good and flavorful. But my main course...the Lobster Pailla...was AMAZING! It was huge, tasty, had all types of seafood, chicken and sausage in it...it was legit one of the best meals Ive ever had. I had enough left over for lunch and dinner the next day. I had the tres leches for dessert which was sooo good. But I also tried the coconut cheesecake which was DELICIOUS!

Andes is a small Peruvian cafe just by the El Camino Real near 25th Ave, San Mateo. Andes is family run and they treat the diners as part of their family, taking utmost care to patiently take you through the menu and suggest their specials. They churn out a lot of Peruvian classics like lomo saltado or rotisserie chicken and they make a terrific mix seafood ceviche. Its refreshingly fresh and delicious ; the spices balance the kick of tangy lime juice seasoned morsels of fresh seafood. Also liked their just off the oven empanadas. They do have an extensive menu with a few nice dessert options and are open for breakfast by 9 AM. What a hidden gem !

My friend and I really enjoyed the authentic Peruvian food during our first visit! I had the seafood soup which was very tasty and had lots of fresh fish, shrimp and a great variety of seafood and my friend had the steak dish with rice and he devoured it! Oscar was a gracious, pleasant server and I really enjoy the laid back vibe and hometown atmosphere. I look forward to trying more dishes and the live music on Sat nights that Oscar told us about. If you enjoy a chill, homey feel, tasty comfort Peruvian food and great service, then I recommend this restaurant!

This restaurant was one of the best South American restaurants Ive ever been to; its really a hidden gem of San Mateo. A lot of Latin/Hispanic restaurants cater merely to Western taste buds and "water down" their native flavors, but Andes Cafe didnt do that at all. Yet, this still kept things accessible to non-Peruvian diners. Our waiter was super fast and friendly, always answering questions and providing more information whenever we needed it. We will definitely be going back and bringing some friends too!

A great find in San Mateo. The food is homestyle, tastes great, and is competitively priced. My party had three different dishes after our appetizer to try things out, each were really well executed and presented. I particularly liked the arroz con pollo and the tallarin saltado de pollo. For postres, we tried four dishes, mazzamorra morado, arroz con leche, flan, and picarrones. Each were perfect.

The very best place for delicious Peruvian food is obviously Peru lol. The next place in the USA would be the East Coast (Tri-state Area and Florida.) While this might sound biased, The third place would be at Andes Cafe in San Mateo. I can tell the food is prepared by someone who has that " touch". The Jalea and Parihuela were Delicious, I will be visiting again!!!

Great, unusual, varied Peruvian food and drinks. Very friendly, family-run place. A little slow, but reasonably priced and very tasty. Conveniently situated on El Camino Real near 92, with adequate on-street parking.
