The food here used to be great, especially the breakfasts.....but.....this morning I sat for 15 minutes at a table while 3 waitresses made 14 trips past me (without making a single comment) , all for various single items like: 1) 1 fork, 2) 1 straw, 3) to get another waitress, 4) to discuss personal itineraries for the holiday weekend. This was infuriating, especially since Id told the hostess upon entering the door that I was in a hurry and already knew my order. The servers have always been more dipsy than efficient, but this was the last straw! Like hanging out watching other people eat while wait staff ignore you? Have lots of time to kill? Bring a book - bring War & Peace! Good luck getting an order in! I wont be going back.......

On Sunday they offer a free glass of Champagne with a meal between certain hours. I told them I dont/cant drink champagne and would like to have a cup of coffee in place of the free Champagne. They give the excuse that there is no substitution although it does not say that anywhere. I asked if Champagne was more expensive than a cup of coffee (no brainer) and she stated it was. So basically there is no reason you cant substitute the two, I guess saving money for ordering coffee versus Champagne doesnt make sense to them. I go there every Sunday and spend money, apparently they dont value loyal customers. That was the last Sunday for me.

Wow! Its so rare these days for an "Italian" restaurant to serve legitimate AUTHENTIC Italian food!! Massive selections/variety, superior quality, incredibly large portions, good staff. Well worth the higher-than-average prices. My only complaint is their "extra plate charge" policy. This is common in some cities, but I consider it tantamount to theft. Food does not magically become more expensive to prepare simply because its eaten by two people. Plus it shows contempt for their own waitstaff, since the inflated price has to be taken from whatever tip the non-adjusted price warrants.

I had hoped for something tasty. I was disappointed. After waiting 25 minutes for a server, I was afforded the opportunity to order a dinner salad and an Italian sausage sandwich. While the dinner salad came right away, the sandwich came 15 minutes later. A sandwich took that long to prepare? When it did come it was wholesome. But, that was all it was - just boring. The tomato sauces tasted like it was directly out of a can, the sausage tasted like hot dogs. I dropped 15 dollars for this sandwich and a diet soda. I was sorely disappointed. I do not plan a return visit.

We have been here before for dinner and thought it was pretty good so we thought we would try lunch. The service was great but the food not so good. we got the pastrami sandwich that they boast about the pastrami coming from LA....not sure what that means but this was the worst pastrami we have ever had. It was suppose to be very lean, but was very fatty and tasted kind of lardy. I noticed it right away but it took my husband a little longer. At $27 for the both of us for lunch, we wont be going back.

3/3/13 The service was insulting to us after being ignored for over 45min and complaining our server show up like nothing was wrong. All around us tables were being served while they look at us and walk by. It was without a doubt racist seeing that we are black.Being ignored while the white customers were being taken care of. In all my years Ive never written a review on anything, but this angered me. If youre not white dont go to this dump.

Worst food we have ever had, The lasagna was burnt and pooling in grease. My husband said his chicken Parmesan tasted like a frozen chicken patty with to much breading. When I told my waitress that I did not like my meal (I ate less than a quarter of the lasagna) I was not offered a refund or another choice from the menu.

Somewhat typical Italian rant, but whats not to like about All-You-Can-Eat spagheti on Mondays and Tuesdays ($6.95 as of 9/2015). I love their veggie marinara sauce. On the other hand, whats with the sawdust on the floor which gets into ones sandals and shoes?! Open later than 95% of the rants in Chico, CA.

Customer service was excellent, but the quality of the food was poor and was more expensive than it was worth. We went there because of all the great reviews, but honestly the food wasnt that good. Spend a little more time to find an Olive Garden if you want better tasting Italian.

Fun, funky atmosphere, ie sawdust on floors. Friendly, fast attentive service. Moderate prices, generous portions. Apparent tomato drought in late july, house salad had lettuce, canned garbanzo beans, canned kidney beans and two slices of canned beet. No tomatoes, really?

Came for a quick lunch; but waited ten minutes for a server to notice me. I was not even at one of her tables, but, Jenny came to my rescue! She promptly took my order. The food was good and her service excellent.

Food is excellent but do not like the decor. Hay on the ground is not a good idea, there was way too much of it when I slid my chair out it literally slid. Service was pretty good though.

Would have given more stars, however, when my friend and I ordered a bottle of wine and they didnt uncork in front of us...very weird. The food was great though and the staff were kind.

Service was fast and friendly. The chicken parmesan and pasta was fresh. The garlic bread was hard and seemed old. Other than the bread it was a good dinner would come back again.

Ive eaten at Italian Cottage a few times while living in Chico and their food is good, the atmosphere is very unique (saw dust on the floor) and the food is prepared quickly.

Boi this place is horrible. The above comment left by Ben Katz (the owners kid) is false. This place is like McDonalds of Italian food; cheap, greezy, fake. Not recommended.

Italian Cottage provides the best Italian in the Northstate area, unfortunately, this includes copious amounts of oil, but thats hardly out of the ordinary for this cuisine.

Good food. Their dinner salads are fresh and chilled. They serve roasted garlic bulbs here that are awesome. The menu is reasonably priced and the service is good.

Ive been getting a pastrami with swiss and no onions with an extra pickle for 30 years. It may not be 5 star quality, but still think its really delicious.
