I live near Detroit, and travel a lot. I was working in the area and ate at Venice Supper Club twice, but I also ordered pizza for pick-up on another day. It was within walking distance of where I was working and convenient to get to. The owner, Jack (81 years old), is a warm addition to the charm of this restaurant. He is very likable, and likes to float about talking with customers. As we learned, many of the recipes descend from Jacks mother. The restaurant has two personalities; the front half, and the back half. The front half looks older and more historical with a beautiful tin ceiling. Jack has pictures and news clippings framed on the wall near the bar. The back half of the restaurant is where they used to dance. Im not sure if they still do. It is very stark in comparison to the front half. As for the food; I would like to start by saying my coworkers enjoyed their food very much, and would highly recommend the restaurant. On the other hand, my cooking background expected more. On separate days, I ordered the chicken fettuccine alfredo, veal parmesan, pepperoni pizza, and sausage pizza. All patrons seemed to get bread sticks before the meal. Think Texas toast sliced into strips, soaked in butter, served with a cup of clarified butter. I thought the bread sticks didnt need any more, since they were already saturated, but other in my group chose to dip them for more taste. The fettuccine alfredo was the best of the meals. However, the alfredo sauce was seperated (curdled) and the chicken was forgotten. Jack personally replaced the missing chicken and didnt charge me for the mistake. Since the chicken was cooked separate of the rest of the meal, it had a stronger flavor which I really liked. The chicken was very tender. I would order this dish again. Jack had said everything was homemade, so I tried the veal parmesan. It wasnt too much different from the frozen variety, though it was more tender. It also had a slight burnt taste. I doubt Id order it again. Both pizzas were nothing to write home about, but the pepperoni was better than the sausage. Both were very flat, similar to NY thin crust style. I would buy this again as a last resort. Ive had good pizza, this isnt it. Matter of fact, DiGornios is better and cheaper. The real problem with this restaurant is the service. The front staff is pretty good, and tries hard to make your visit enjoyable. But the back staff (kitchen) is very very slow. The two days I ate in, it took 45 - 50 minutes to receive our food, and there were only a few other customers. The first day, I believe we were the first customers, and still received our food 50 minutes later. Granted, it was a party of eight. Still, it leave you with little time to eat during lunch breaks. I believe only one cook works the back half, and he looks to be Jacks age. Also, someone in our party was over billed for their meal. Instead of paying $8.61 for his meal, he was charged $86.10 against his credit card. Overall, if you are hungry and have a lot of time, this is not a bad place to eat. Its good for a small town like Ishpeming.

This place really went downhill since the new owner ship. Steaks suck, they dont know the difference between rare and burnt..... My baked patatoe came to me raw twice..... Must be pretty hard t bake a patato, right. Oh my god, their so called homemade pasta sauce is just diced tomatoes with maybe some basil mixed in it... just horrid. Garlic bread is worst then burnt croutons. On a side note, if you order a filet, it is the cheapest steak around, they just filet it in half, it is NOT A FILET MINGON. JUST A HEADS UP>>>>>> This place really went downhill, no atmosphere anymore either, I really dont see them staying in business much longer without changing. This place really sucks, I would go to macdonalds or burger king before them.... Just horrible....
