PROS: (1) Good chicken fried chicken, (2) Authentic Carriage house and carriages, so its something unique and even charming to see once, (3) Its VERY casual and rustic if thats what youre looking for CONS: (1) Its August 9 and theres NO AC!! We were all sweating bullets. (2) Its VERY casual - too casual for a business meeting, (3) Salad bar was embarrassing - poorly stocked and very basic. (4) Food took 35 minutes to come out - brisket & sausage plate, a burger plate, chicken friend chicken plate and a grilled chicken plate. Holy cow that was a long wait for a meal that should have been out in 15 minutes!, (5) If youre only coming for the food and youre more than 3 miles away, find another place. This is Houston - you can find chicken fried chicken almost anywhere

The CFS is large, it took up the whole plate. Was lightly battered, and tender. I know it can be hit or miss if you get a fork tender cut but sure did today. Cream type gravy was well seasoned and tasted good. Unlike the place in Tomball that seems to use some broth based gravy that is just plain, tasteless. There CFS is also not of the same quality either. But will say the tomball place does have some good rolls rather than plain bread. This didnt matter to me since dont eat much bread. The carriage house is worth the drive. I found the C.H. by someones review on the Tomballs site, will say thanks for letting us know of a better place

Taken back in time to the 1800s. As soon as we walked in our group felt like they were in a museum. After placing our order at the front we went to sit down in the Tack Room and as we waited for our food we talked about all the memorabilia that was around us. The waitress did not take long to bring our food and was very kind. Our table had a variety of food from the menu so we shared with each other. The Corn Nuggets, Hamburgers, Brisket, Fried Chicken were all delicious. The burger was juicy, tender and out of this world.

The ole western atmosphere is great, sadly it is greatly lacking that ole western customer service. The girl at the register was a bit of in a hurry to take our order (even though we explained we were not familiar with the food being our second visit and we were taking our parents for the first time). Then she never mentioned they were not serving any soda pops (no coke, diet coke, nothing). My husband was very upset and ready to ask for a refund.

Ive eaten here several times and it was very good. Went last night for a friends birthday celebration and was very disappointed. The lady taking orders was very nice. After being seated there was no service. No one tell about the fruit flies in the salad bar. I took my son upstairs to look at the antiques and there was broken glass all over the floor. The chicken fried steak is great but it seems like the current management couldnt care less.

I have to share along with all the folks that go have lunch and dinner here. It is so nice and a very Southern Feel. When I was first introduced to this Café, I was just amazed at what their Chicken Fried Steak tasted. It was out of this world great. I absolutely loved it. It is cooked perfect every single time I have been there. It is absolutely amazing. I cant brag enough about this place. Jacqueline Canell

I have been here a couple times over the past few years and really liked it, however this last time (early June 2015) there were so many fruit flies around that one of us in our group ended up with one in his mouth while he was trying to eat. Constantly waiving them off of our food!!! GROSS!!! You could hear the staff arguing in the kitchen bad!!! Burgers were not good at all!!! I will not be coming back.

Very good food! You get huge portions of anything you order. It used to be an old antique store and they still have the old furniture and antique look in the restaurant. They have a ton of old carriage (hence the name) which my kids fond fascinating. If you go, try the country fried steak and mashed potatoes. Doesnt look like much from thr outside but definity a place to put on your list to try.

Our family has been going to The Carriage House Cafe for years. It is like stepping back in time with all the western decor and beautiful antiques. The chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken are awesome and the sides are great too. If you order the corn nuggets you better be prepared to share with everyone at the table or better yet, tell your family to order their own!

This is an interesting place. Lots of old fashion items to look it. Built out of rustic wood. An actual carriage is inside. Others on the porch. I like the chicken fried steak, mashed and green beans. Home cooked. They could use a spruce up of the place, looks frankly dead inside. Was there a noon and only a few customers. Maybe Ill try again not sure.

The chicken fried steak is wonderful. I have a large family and we usually call ahead to let them know we need a table for 20+ but they have always accommodated us when we get together at the last minute. This place is a museum of old carriages. There is so much to look at while you wait for your food. You and your family will be glad you came.

Best burger ever! nice and quiet good music low and appropriate just back ground well done. and they even apparently dust the artifacts at least every few days. I recommend this little unknown place to everyone. Good food good people. Vary rare in this town. 5 stars dont even come close to this.

Regretfully, too good. I love the look and location. I hope that only enough people know about this place so they stay in business but obscure enough to be my little getaway to a window into historical texas. Regardless of how old it is. Their Burgers.......so good. But BBQ is fantastic too.

I so wanted to love this place. The building, decide and ambiance is amazing which is why it gets 3 stars but the food was not to mine or my wifes liking. The brisket was tough and the chicken fried steak was nowhere near legendary. I wont be coming back again and that makes me sad.

Today was our first time coming here and it was great! We have been in the area for years and never stopped in. After hearing friends talk about how great this place was, we finally came by. We will diffenetlly be returning! The chicken fried chicken was cooked amazingly.

The food is always good portion. The servers are very lenient about switching your salad for a different side. However, the food taste is so-so, nothing to write home about, but you still wouldnt mind going there once a week. Their mashed potato is pretty good though.

The country (excuse me, chicken) fried steak was delicious -tenderized and lightly breaded. Also, the old timey decor and overall ambiance was quite nice. There is a photo op by the salad bar; just bring an apron and pretend to run a saloon.
