Yogi Berra once said of a NY hangout, "Nobody goes there because its too crowded." That almost describes LaTapatia. I gave it four stars only because you may have to wait a while to be seated for dinner on a weekend. Otherwise, its probably the best Mexican restaurant in Martinez and surrounding area. (There arent that many choices in Martinez; its a small town.) Im partial to the shrimp enchiladas or chicken anything, but my husband is a beef burrito person. Occasionally he gets flautas or chimicangas. We have never had a bad meal here. They start you off with salsa and bean dip with fresh chips and you just have to control yourself or you will "wolf" them down and then wonder why youre not hungry anymore. The menu is a little overwhelming--there are so many items but if you know your Mexican food, just ignore it and ask the waiter for what you want. If youre taking someone out for a birthday celebration, let the restaurant know. Theyll bring a complimentary piece of cake and take your picture in a sombrero! Nice touch although the pix is like a polaroid so bring your own camera. I dont know why so many people think the prices are high. I think theyre very reasonable. This is not a Taco Bell!

Aside from great food, you will find the atmosphere appitizing, as well. Outdoor seating allows you to take in the ambiance of old town Martinez. The restaurant has accent lighting on the outside of the building that adds to the charm and comfort of your outdoors experience. Try their chili relleno dinner, and ask for a to-go box in advance. Their portions are very generous. In addition to your wonderful meal, try their ice cold sangria (an alcholic beverge). It is a tasty accompaniment to a fabulous meal. The regular attendance of the local residents tells the rest. Prices are competetive. Looking forward to my next visit.

This has been a family favorite since it took over this location from another restaurant. The food is always excellent. The drinks are stiff and the staff is the reason for the Fifth Star. If you have birthday or anniversary and want to celebrate it with 20 of you closest friends, the is an excellent place. They will set you up in a private spot. If you have a reception or event that needs more space, they have a large room next door where they can cater, set up a bar and your guests go through a buffet line.

Best Mexican in the East Bay! Great service. Staff is attentive but not hovering over you. Bean dip is delicious. Best homemade tamales! The menu is extensive, If someone in your group doesnt care for Mexican, ( and theyre your friend, why? :) they have delicious burgers and salads. Kid friendly. Happy hour is CHEAP and the margaritas are very good. Very clean too.

Excellent food, but even more excellent service. The crew here is the nicest, most attentive and fastest to accommodate at any restaurant Ive been to. We always go there with a huge group and they always have a table ready. Everyone is so nice, just amazing. Plus the beans are just right, covered with meltey cheese, not too soupy and not too thick, perfect!

The hostess is not great. She seated me, then immediately said in to her microphone, "1 on 27." She could have done that away from my table. Especially because the restaurant was not crowded (only 4 tables seated, including me). The enchiladas verde were quite salty. I wont be back.

On a layover waiting for my next train. Ordered a side of rice to, the rice was awesome reminded me of my grandmas. Packaging was good easy-to-use at the train station. I would like to go back and enjoy a full sit down meal. Customer service was good everyone was friendly.

We were hanging out in Martinez on the 4th of July and this was one of only a few restaurants that were open for business that day. We enjoyed our meal out front on the sidewalk tables very much. Good service and tasty fish tacos!

Consistent old school Mexican food. Good service. Seems they have updated the service level and all waiters now wear ear pieces to facilitate better communication. Menu is new and price has gone up a bit but still a good value.

We eat here several times a year. You can tell that they cook and not bake. Tonight the flavors mingled really well and the food was great. We have been a customer for over 20 years and see no reason to change that.

Some really good Mexican food in downtown Martinez but during the holidays most likely closed so call them up first but any other time they were going to be open good people too
