I stopped in on a Sunday night after enjoying dinner at the San Francisco Brewing Company just down the block (make sure you stop in there too). It was relatively empty other then a party of about 8 people at the tables in the dining room and another 3 people at the bar and a couple in the bar area. The music played was like being back in high school again. STD, 7 Mary 3, Lenny Kravitz, 3 Doors Down, Everclear, Gin Blossoms, etc. Glass case as you enter filled with empty Chocolate Stout bottles. Cooler close to where you enter with Rogue bombers (seem to be for off-sale). I counted 43 taps and 1 cask available at the time. Almost all Rogue beers but there are about 5-8 that arent. I asked the bartender if there were any I could only get there and he replied that all but about 5 of them cant be found in CA. Strange since Minnesota gets all of the ones they had listed. The bartender took my drink order and then closed out 3 different tabs before getting my drink. But on the plus side he did sell me one of the Rogue logo shot glasses for $1. The bar is sticky with beer and smells of hundreds of departed beers. Plaques on the bar at each seat with the nicknames of what I would assume are regular drinkers. Im sure this bar is lots of fun on Friday and Saturday nights with friends. Next time I stop by Ill bring some other people with me and try the food.

Visited in Feb 2012. Arrived with a group of about 10 people to enjoy a late dinner and a few beers. Service was decent. The guy who took care of us was trying hard, but he was also the bartender so he couldnt come around very often . . . despite the fact that the place was pretty dead (Tuesday night). Cleanliness was a big issue. This place is dirty!!! Bathrooms are always a good indication of how clean the staff keeps the kitchen. If that holds true in this place I cant believe people can eat there without getting sick! The rest of the back room was pretty run down as well. Felt more like a college frat house than a restaurant. What really shocked me about this place was the beer. Im a huge fan of micro brewed beers and love Rogue Ales, but I was very disappointed in the beers I tried here. Surprisingly flat and warm . . . and I mean well above cellar temperature. One of the people in our group is a "bud light" only guy and had to return his draft beer for a bottle because it was so warm and flat. I can only assume that there was something going wrong with the CO2 / cooler. Obviously, this place will not be my first choice the next time Im in San Francisco.

Theres two types of people: those that go to the bars for the crowds, blaring music, and $7 drinks, or those that go for a beer and a chat between friends. North Beach has plenty to offer with regards to the former, and something to offer in the latter, with Rogue Ales Public House. They dont brew here (that all takes place in Oregon), but that just leaves more room for the beers, some two dozen varieties of Rogue, along with a smattering of guest taps. If youre a beer drinker, you can spend several days just running down the list and trying the stable. Given the atmosphere, I was expecting some solid eats to accompany my beers. They serve Wagyu everything here, which sounds a little unnecessary in hot dogs and hamburgers, but the menu made the chili dog sound good, so I ordered that. The dog didnt appear to be anything special, and the chili (Wagyu) was also just okay. There was a good deal of it, so I had to knife and fork it. The bun was near stale and the chips were of food service quality, so I dont think I would order it again. Sadly, the food wasnt up to par, but the beer is good. Oh my, is the beer good.

Is it weird to suggest coming for the food instead of the beer? Rogue makes my absolute favorite beer, the Hazelnut Brown Nectar. Having spent the last 4 years in Mississippi, Rogue beers were few and far between. I didnt really have much of a context for what their larger offerings tasted like, but I knew I absolutely had to make my way into the city to find this place and to sample as many of their beers as I could. I had 8 of their samplers and I wasnt really impressed with any of them. They have a diverse portfolio, from mead to pear cider, but only one of their IPAs was what I would consider great. The real highlight was the Rogue Soseji Sampler. It came with two bleu cheese/legit Kobe beef-mixed meat balls which were mind-blowing, a Kobe beef sausage which made me hate all other beef, decent chorizo sausage, and an okay Kobe slider (Which was honestly kind of a waste of the Kobe). This is probably the cheapest youll ever get to experience Kobe beef and the asking price is well worth it. I would just suggest you watch out for what beers you pair it with.

I can see why this place has the existence rate. We just went bar hopping on Saturday and this was the last one we checked out after Beer City and Hopwater. The place itself is pretty nice. Self seating service inside and outside patio - not bad! Great long bar that seems ancient. Everything checks out but service is really rude. The bartender with glasses should learn that wearing a smile and being friendly goes a long way (apart from getting a great tip). He simply was cold and rolled up his eyes when we asked to try couple samples before deciding on our beer. As if we were wasting his time because he was doing us a favor. Haha! This attitude always shocks me. Dont get me wrong, he got the job done but just in a very rude manner that makes you feel youre not welcome at Rogue. Who wants to feel like that when there are tons of Bars with great service, beer and food? We ended up choosing cold brew and brutal IPAs which I personally didnt like. Soft pretzel was pretty good! Place overall was pretty clean. Ill pass on the effort of returning here.

One first in the air for this place! I love their beer and I visited a public house while in Portland and fell in love! I was super stocked to find a Rogue Public House here in San Francisco! Heck yeah! The food is super tastry too! Im a big fan of the Blue Balls...the Kobe Beef Blue Cheese Meatballs. You can get them by themselves or as sliders...sliders are the way to go! The house made mustard is great and I really liked the chili cheese dog! My personal favorite beer is the Brutal Bitter IPA but I havent had a Rogue Beer that I didnt like yet! They do serve other beers, but do yourself a favor and try the super popular Hazelnut Brown on draft! Its SOOOOO GOOD!

I used to like going to Rogue. Now that Ive been living in SF for 4 years, I dont really see a reason to come here. If I want a beer garden, Ill go to Biergarten or Zeitgeist. If I want delicious beers indoors, Churchkey and La Trappe are both within a 5 minute walk. And who are you kidding with your "Kobe beef hot dog?" First, even if this were true, I dont think Kobe beef would be a good choice of meat with which to make a hot dog. Second, youre full of **. Yes, youre right around the corner from me, but no, it just doesnt come together. That said, when Rogue is serving some hard-to-come-by barrel aged Rogue beers, it cant hurt to stop in for a pint.
