Where do I begin.. I love this place. I lived in laHabra twice in the 80s to 1992. I lived a mile away. My mother and sister lived right across Whittier Blvd from the Golden Star. I would walk with my little girl to the restaurant regularly. We went with my mom and sister regularly. We would go especially for take out when we didnt want to eat out but take the food home to take our time to savour it at our leisure. And yes we did order big dinners just so we would have left overs to take home. The food is out standing. The egg rolls are the best I have ever had anywhere, hands down. That includes anywhere else I have been all across the country. From California to Virginia. No where else has even come half way close to Golden Star in LaHabra. Everything is so good that even after I moved from LaHabra in 1992, we would drive the hour and half to 2 hours to come to Golden Star. Then all of a sudden, every time we chNced to come up to this part if the county, we would come but it had a closed sign. No matter what day if the week it was. We tried calling and the operator always said the number was disconnected. My brother would drive up to it from Sun City and it was closed. We all went into mourning. That was like ten years ago . Then tonight. I get a call from my daughter. Shes so excited! She and her family went for a long drive and ended up in laHabra. They went to the place we lived when she was little and they drove to the Golden Star on purpose to see if it was still there. It is and it was open! Hurrah! She and I are making plans for when we can go there. I can hardly wait! How fabulous to have GOOD food at a Chinese restaurant again.

My food was disgusting! I ordered to go and I had egg flower soup that actually had a bug in it. No kidding. The chow mein and vegetable platter was oversaturated with soy sauce. One of the worst Chinese restaurants I have ever been to in my life. I will come back here. Too bad I couldnt rate this place with 0 stars instead of 1!

We have tried many chinese restaurants all over o.c. We keep coming back to Golden Star in La Habra. You might find some items at other places that taste better, but overall, their menu beats everyone else, especially on price and quantity. We eat chinese about 3 times a month, and its always here!

Best place to eat at.....best service u van ever get ....its calm and peaceful to eat at and enjoyable too....their prices are the best.....the food is so good u would want to order more to go.....im telling u really go eat at this place u will love it

Dont judge a book by its cover. Was fearful looking at the place but went inside and was pleasantly surprised. Service was great and food was amazing. Totally coming back. I highly suggest you give it a try.

Place hasnt changed in 40 years, family owned, very reminiscent of a 70s Chinese restaurant. Big portions, super friendly. Very hard to find a Chinese restaurant that makes everything fresh to order

Was looking forward to eating a good chinese dinner. The chow mein and kung pao beef we ordered were both bland and greasy. Overall, the food just didnt seem fresh :(
