if i could leave zero stars, i would. this place was not friendly, not welcoming, not prepared to deal with hungry humans. go figure. a large group of my friends arrived at opening today, ready and eager to enjoy some breakfast. the hostess/waitress was very agitated and distressed at the size of our group and kept repeating that she could not, and would not, accommodate a party of our size. we offered to split up tables, stagger our orders, and sit and wait any length of time to order and eat. she explained that she was alone, and that the kitchen was small, and that we just couldnt come in to sit for even some coffee and a pastry. it really seemed like she was just being lazy and not willing to deal with a group that wouldve filled up only a third of the restaurant upon opening. here were some of her responses: "theres too many of you, and our place is small." "we only have four burners." "you guys cant take up all the tables." "its not just the size of your group, its that youre all here at the same time." "a group of four would be ok, but any more than that is too much." this place was unwilling to work with us, unprepared to handle feeding more than four at a time, and decided that losing out on a ton of morning business was better than trying to be an accommodating, friendly spot. heaven forbid more than three unrelated parties of four ever arrive at allston diner looking for some breakfast. i dont think this hostess/server would be able to handle it. cant comment on the food because #onlyfourburners.

If I was going to use two words to describe this place it would be "consistently amazing". You can tell who ever is behind the food, has some serious attention to detail. I love this place also because they what I can only definite as THE PERFECT over-easy egg, full of yolky-goodness without being over medium on one side(this happens to me a lot). These egg-sperts also use clarified butter, which tastes much better than margine and isnt greasy like real butter. Oh and the potatoes are like a rosemary kissed crispy coin somewhere between a chip and scalloped potato in thickness. I always look forward to the weekend so I can come here for breakfast. While this isnt good for groups larger than 4 (they dont have room for that many) Ive been here almost weekly since I discovered it. Recommendations: Try the hash and eggs, eggs and bacon, omelets, pancakes, cheesy grits.... I havent had a bad meal here so Im sure everything is really good. Im also gluten-free and have had nothing but good experience with the kitchen and staff being both careful and knowledgeable. The ambiance is fun and hipster-friendly with childrens book pages glazed onto the tables and neon teal accents on the trim. I really cant adequately express how much I absolutely love this place, its a gem!

A large group of us came by right after opening since we knew it wouldnt be busy yet. We were the first people in the restaurant and saw the sign that they only serve parties of 4 at a time, so we offered to split up and space out our orders. The host/server outright refused us service. Her reasoning was that she was working alone, they had a small kitchen, and we would "take up the whole restaurant." Were explained that we were happy to wait as smaller groups of 4, wouldnt mind a long wait for the food, and we would all be ordering breakfast and drinks, not just sitting around, but she wouldnt listen and shooed us out the door. More than half of our group left, so we tried again with far less people and she still refused to let us sit down. As a restaurant manager myself, it absolutely blows my mind that she would outright refuse tables to a group who were obviously overly accommodating and understanding. We took our $800+ of business and 25% gratuity elsewhere.

Im not sure what rude hostess everyone is talking about ; Ive only had friendly experiences here. They are always quite busy on the weekends for breakfast, so perhaps their rush comes off as unfriendly? Im not sure. Anyways. The good stuff. Im from the South and have a hard time finding breakfast biscuits. When I heard they offered them I knew I had to try. Was pleasantly surprised! Their biscuits are soft with a grilled crispy edge. Very buttery, which is a good thing. Their BBQ seitan is da bomb and so is their normal brisket, waffles, pancakes, literally everything Ive tried. Coffee is always fresh too. The rosemary home fries that come on the side of most orders are awesome too. I just love it. Worth the wait!

Allston Diner serves above average brunch items in a fun laid back diner atmosphere. The servers and most of the patrons are a bit edgy, and it seems like most people who go are regulars. This is a good thing, as everyone seems to be family. I generally order the breakfast sandwich which has a nice appetizing appearance. The bagel is nicely toasted, and the bacon and eggs are cooked appropriately. I also like their home fries, which come with most of the breakfast items. Expect to wait if you come on the weekend, this place is very popular.

Honestly it really didnt live up to hype so that was the most disappointing thing. The service was the best thing. The food was quite mediocre and therefore quite disappointing. My eggs didnt look or taste diner/restaurant made they look/taste more like fast food eggs. The decor wasnt really "nostalgic" as other reviewers have said. Maybe just because it wasnt our style but definitely too alternative/hipster for us, and definitely too cold. That is why we give this restaurant 2 stars.

Great food, great coffee, awesome staff. Food came out fairly quick and the wait to sit was minimal for it being a small size diner. Loved the decor and energy as soon as I walked in. I didnt have to use any condiments on my breakfast. I ordered the park vale omelette with a side of brisket. OMG the brisket was so good with a hint of spice. Portion size was a nice hefty size. All fresh ingredients. Def glad we came here before heading back to Connecticut. Left happy and full.

Small, but very cozy and comfortable breakfast place. Food is consistently great, especially the fries - perfectly seasoned, not soggy and not burnt. The homemade beef hash or loaded waffles is a must-try. . Interior is somewhat quirky, with themes ranging from comic illustration on the table tops to abstract food-related paintings. Parking is not really a challenge. Highchair or booster seats are available. Waiting staff are hard working, friendly and fast. Worth a visit.

I had the worst racist experience ever at the Allston Dinner . If your black or have dark skin you might want to think twice about eating here the cleaning lady /dish washer referred to me & my Co-workers as you people which has to mean " Black People ". This should go done in history

This place is awesome. John, who wrote a bad review of this place, should stick with ihop. I go here for breakfast and lunch every chance I get. The menu is different than other places but thats what makes this place so great. I have been blown away by how good everything is.

I was really happy when I heard that a new breakfast place was coming to Allston. Unfortunately, the Allston Diner is really bad. The staff seems like they have no idea what they are doing and the food is terrible. We will see how long the place lasts...
