I went here for the first time for breakfast with some family from out of town. We were seated right away and the atmosphere of the place was very cozy. But the honeymoon ended quickly when the waitress arrived. A young girl who took our drink orders but seemed in a hurry, like she didnt want to be working. She barely spoke and there were no pleasantries like "Good morning" or "Welcome". I guess some people forget that the unemployment rate is high and they should be grateful for even having a job, even if it is waiting tables. My cousins son asked the waitress what kind of eggs they had (in other words, did they come scrambled, sunnyside up, etc). The waitress took it literally and stammered "The kind that come from ... chickens?" What kind of person answers an 8 year old like that? My son had to share my pancakes because they never brought his order. They didnt forget to charge me for it, though. We left a tip as a courtesy, but I did it under protest. It wasnt even like the place was that busy (Sunday morning 10am) for us to be rushed out. Needless to say, first time last time for this diner. I simply dont understand how a waitress can act this way and I certainly wont tolerate this behavior.

Full disclosure: I have been going to the Comfort Diner for years. I am a fan of and loyal to it based on many years of really good meals and chats with the staff. Pancakes, omelets, oatmeal, burgers, and I could go on. So it is with kindness, respect, and an intention to help (and a hope that someone who works there reads this) that I share my thoughts about my most recent experience there (4/22/17). The corned beef in the corned beef hash (which includes beets, sweet potatoes, and onions) needs to be chopped so the meat can cook consistently and provide the right texture for what hash is supposed to be. I did not eat half of what was on my plate because most of the corned beef pieces were the size of matchbooks. Not only is that a bad texture for corned beef, it makes the dish more like a stew without the sauce than like a hash. Lastly, when a diner asks for eggs poached medium, that does not mean white cooked and yolks raw. Needless to say, I will order differently on my next breakfast/brunch run. Other than that, the Comfort Diner is one of two diners I go to in the area because quality food and service are worth spending more money.

Been going here everyday before work for the past few days as its really convenient. Food comes out quick and man Ive never had such a good waffle or stack of pancakes. Not sure what they put in that batter but man is it good. Not the best decor but honestly Im not sure why that should affect a rating on a diner, it still looks fine to me. Ask for a blueberry muffin too, it aint on the menu but its right on the end of the counter and they are really good. Cant say anything about the coffee because I usually get an iced coffee beforehand at Starbucks that I like, but the guy next to me whos there everyday always gets a cup of it so I cant imagine its that bad. Good, solid, place. Only bad experience I had was the omelette was a little huge for my taste, 3 eggs with a ton of cheese and filling. But it still tasted good.

Original Diner-Flair. Bedienung sehr nett und schnell. Etwas laut, aber normal für USA. Wir hatten 3x Frühstück (B.B.C) und die Pancakes. Absolut americanstyle Frühstück, sehr lecker und reichlich. Kaffee schmeckt mir. Leider kein Latte Machiatto. Vor 8.00 kaum Wartezeit. Bei mehr als 3 Personen verlängert sich die Wartezeit! Da wir 3x da waren 100% Empfehlenswert! Günstige Preise.

The food was ok. We ordered the pancakes, waffles bacon and eggs. The waffles and eggs were alright. The bacon came out raw. We sent it back to be cooked more and they burned it. The pancakes were alright even though the last one was burned. The home fries were disgusting so we sent them back for a refund. The waitress, Alex, summoned the manager, Delia, the manager demanded to know why so we told her they were cold and nasty. She said, "we dont serve nasty food, take that back" her demeanor was very nasty and she should consider a different line of work if she cant take criticism from customers. We are from Chicago so we know how good food taste. No pressure though. Happy New Years!

A thoroughly bizarre experience every time I go... I love this location, as there arent too many places to sit hang out this far east on the LES, but the service has consistently and almost comically awful. The food at the Comfort Diner is solid to very good; sort of an artisanal spin on comfort food. The decor and ambiance is a little odd. The owner obviously spent a great deal of time on branding, though the space is vacuous (and usually empty), totally at odds with the intimate classic NYC vibe they were attempting. Good beer; poor cocktails. I want to like this place as I live right next door, but they seriously need to figure out the service side of the business.

Went on a Saturday night around 7 and it was pretty dead.. only 4 or 5 more people eating. It took over 10 min for someone to take our drink order. There was on music playing.. awkward silence. Our server appeared to be doing everything but take our food order, wiping down a counter, etc. A man, maybe the manager maybe finally came over and took our food order. The food was not very good, mine was cold in places. We used to be regulars at the 23rd St. location before it closed.. that one was fun, lively, and served yummy food. We will not be going back.

This was our first New York diner experience and we loved it! We didnt know what to expect as we just wanted a quick breakfast and this place was across the street from our hotel. The food was very good and reasonable priced. It definitely tasted homemade and I am still craving their pancakes. You also get a good portion of food for the price you pay. The service was ok, but I supposed thats what you get in a busy city like NY. I would definitely recommend this palce to everyone who enjoys great homestyle meals and a retro-diner atmosphere.

I really enjoyed The Comfort Diner... It was my first trip to NYC and when we walked in its like I was in a movie, to walk into a place so good it cant be real... Service was SUPERB!!! On top of getting the biggest glass of Apple juice from a restaurant ever.. The food was amazing. My nephew and I had pancakes and eggs with sausage and potatoes. It was the best pancakes Id ever eaten and my nephew agreed. Idk how but the perfect mix of crisp and fluffy with an unmatched flavor profile it simply was the best!!

Although the food was very good, this place adds an automatic 18% gratuity to your check. Because they do this, the waitress didnt have to "work" for any tip and from the time our food was brought out by someone else to the time we asked for our check, our waitress did not check on us once. I had been out of something to drink the entire time that I had my food until we flagged down another waitress just to ask for water. Dont get me wrong, the food was very good but the service is severely lacking!
