Went to Sofia bar last week and I left very disappointed. The positives- ambiance and the wine. Sofia bar is really cute, and rustic inside. The lights are dim and it has a very intimate feel. The wine selection is great and reasonably priced. Negatives: menu, service and food. Our servers were polite which I appreciate but took a long time and misinformed us about the menu. My sister in law is gluten free and the waiter told us being told us everything on the menu has gluten free options (even the pizza)..so we ordered pizza, meatballs and a salad. After waiting about 15 min the manager came over and told us they didnt have gluten free options at all and the only 3 items that did not include wheat products were a salad, a dip and something else (really?!) so then we had to order again and wait a long time for the food. Youd think the manager would try to make up for it somehow as that was a big mistake but he didnt seem too concerned. So after another 20 min wait, we finally got our food and I was not impressed. Margherita pizza was pretty much all sauce no cheese and a crab salad barely had crab on it. The busser kept coming over trying to clear our plates before we finished, which I found very annoying. On top of that the menu is very limited. Doesnt include many meat options and is kind of boring. For these reasons I am giving it 2 stars. If we didnt order a bottle of wine and enjoyed the ambiance we prob would have left but at least we were in good company.

Sofia Wine Bar & Cafe is romantic and relaxing, simple when it comes to Italian wine bars. A solid midtown East after-work locale and/or a great backdrop for a date. Their menu highlight would be their mid-sized thin-crust pizzas with optional toppings. We went with the Spinach Artichoke Dip and Meat & Cheese Platter starter dishes accompanied by wine. Selection of wine is quite wonderful yet pricing is steep, ranging from $12-$18 a glass. Bottles range $50 and above. A slight drawback would be the lack of a description for what cheeses we were having. Overall, the food was delicious, and Sofia offers a classy ambiance for an uncomplicated, relaxing dinner. With an extensive Italian wine list, its worth checking out.

I HAVE NEVER experienced that the manager Anthony of Sofia Wine Bar in New York City, would YELL AND CURSE at my frand and I after we have paid for our drinks and food and left 20% tip!! First they wanted us to pay our bill and leave! Finally manager Anthony offered to move us to sit at the bar, just to find out he meant to sit at the BENCH (waiting area)!!! Only because I didnt want to sit at the bench after I spent $$ on dinner and drinks he started yelling and cursing at us! In front of FULL bar! I was afraid that this man Anthony might harm us! He was very close to us in a crowded bar and I didnt know what to expect from him! I am speechless, shocked the way I was treated as a customer and a human being!

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :) Food: I recommend the Margherita pizza which goes great with any of the nice and limited selection of reds they offer. Drinks: Excellent. Great wine selection although, it is limited. Maybe a handful of Cabs & Pinto Noirs. 1 Red Zin. Space: Very elegant, small and modern wine bar/restaurant. It is small making it very quaint, intimate and romantic. Great place to bring a date, impress your significant other or get-togethers. Scene: Romantic. Date night. Singles scene. Girls night out. Crowd: 30-50s Pick-up scene. Mostly locals. Service: Excellent! The staff is very courteous, knowledgeable & professional.

I went here for dinner while I was in the city for a work trip, with time to kill. I just stumbled upon it on the internet looking for nearby places, and Im so glad I did! The tiny space is exactly what you would hope for in a NYC wine bar: romantic, friendly, and chic. It was around Halloween, so they had decorated for the holiday. The music wasnt too loud, and was pleasant in the atmosphere. I had two glasses of wine, an olive appetizer and sliders, all of which were fantastic. I sat at the bar, since I was alone, and the service was swift and welcoming. Also, they had a fabulously clean bathroom. Looking forward to visiting again!

Sophias combined espresso & wine offering fit the bill for an after-work spot that would accommodate a small group of drinking and non-drinking. I wasnt expecting to be impressed. For me, Midtown Easts bar scene is divided between ultra-divey or a menu which lists disappointingly over-priced cocktails. At Sophias, I was greeted by wooden bar stools inviting me to cozy up and try from the varied wine offering. My friends were pleased with the honest and decently-priced food offering. I do suggest they add a latte/cappuccino option alongside their espresso, but regardless - would go back again!

- Bruschetta trio Tomato - large fresh chunks of tomato and a little basil Ricotta - soft creamy cheese with a little honey drizzled, could have used a bit more honey Didnt try the olive tapenade - Meat lasagna - it was pretty good - Syrah wine - good, paired well with the lasagna and on its own - Lava cake - very good, served with a scoop of ice cream Service was good They recommended the wine We got a couple of wrapped chocolates at the end too

This was the most lovely place with the most attentive and thoughtful people. The atmosphere is cozy and the food is absolutely delicious, as was the wine. We were two adults and two kids, had a reasonable wait and the guys working were incredibly attuned to our needs throughout. Our while waiting grumpy young people turned into big fans, stating emphatically that the pizza and dessert were SO worth the wait. Loved it. We will absolutely be back.

Aesthetically pleasing. Good selection of wine. Can get very loud due to its small size. Will charge you for everything short of the using the salt shaker. When asked about the additional costs the waiter replied in a very condescending manner which put a damper on our night. I did not try to entire menu so i can only comment that the cheese platter was decent. Peppermints at the end were nice touch!

Pretty loud for a wine bar. Pretty pricey list of drinks. Only a few choices of food. Expect to shell out some dough for marked up bottles of wine and thats about it. The company you bring is most likely going to be the best part of your experience here. Not blown away by anything but not disappointed either. Overall, I wouldnt say its worth the visit unless you can drink in the garden in the back.

Met a new friend here for a glass of wine. Learned that if you want a table to sit, you must order food too. Wine specials were nice and in-line with Midtown pricing. Lively and fun, some nice food options too. The service was also polite AND attentive - something you dont always find in NYC. I will definitely be coming back to this new discovery.

This is a cute wine bar I go to after work since its nearby. They have a great wine selection and if you are overwhelmed by the options, the staff here can give you some good recommendations. I usually get a glass of prosecco and share a pizza with a co-worker. Its a great place to go to for dinner after work.
