Ive been to this place a number of times and live in the neighborhood, so I feel like I can give a completely thorough review. Food: The menu is mostly traditional Mexican cuisine: burritos, tacos (soft tortilla), enchiladas, nachos, Mexican sandwiches, etc. There are also many steak/chicken/pork entrees and three pasta dishes on the menu. Nothing is notably excellent, but everything is satisfying. The portions are large and the prices are about what youd expect. Compared to other Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, the food is slightly better than average. The quality of produce and meat is good, although they use shredded lettuce and sliced tomatoes in a lot of their dishes (and chances are those tomatoes were sliced hours ago). Service: The big downside. None of the wait staff are rude or unhelpful, but they are very inattentive. Food takes a LONG time to come out (20 min. for a sandwich, 30 min for a burrito) even when the restaurant is empty so be sure to order well in advance for take out/delivery. Atmosphere: Vibrant blue walls are covered with Mexican (at least inspired) rugs, art, and clothing. Its an inviting space and has a roomy bar to sit in and watch the game or have a beer after work. Anecdotes: -Ordered a Cubana sandwich to go. It took more than 20 min. to be made, and when it finally came out the waitress handed me the check but walked away without taking my money. I paid five minutes later (now 25 min. of waiting for a sandwich) and took it home. The portion was big and everything on the roll was delicious. -Ordered the "spaghetti con pechuga de pollo" (grilled chicken breast with broccoli, tomatoes, & asparagus) to go. I get told that theyre out of spaghetti (not that surprising at a Mexican restaurant, I suppose) so I ask to replace the spaghetti with rigatoni, their only other pasta. After waiting for half an hour, I begin to ask where my meal is. Theres some confusion as the waitresses talk to each other and make a couple of trips to the kitchen. Eventually, one of them says that it will only be another 5 min. So I wait, stomach growling, until the same waitress returns to me wondering how I have gotten my food yet. After some more discussion it turns out that my food was ready and had been behind the bar counter this entire time. I take my (now warm) food back to my apartment (45 min. after I ordered it) to find that instead of substituting rigatoni for spaghetti, they actually just gave me the rigatoni dish (grilled chicken and veggies -zucchini, etc.). It tasted alright, but waiting 45 min. for the wrong order is never fun. Summary: If you live nearby, youll find yourself going to this place out of convenience. In fact, if you live in the neighborhood I recommend going at least once to try the food. But you can get better service for the same quality and slightly better prices by walking to the Taco Truck on 145th (between Broadway and Amsterdam). Favorite dishes: torta cubana, nachos.

Im Mexican and I really do not like this mex restaurant, lets see: The food is good and cheap, however it takes forever to arrive to your table, even when its something super simple like 2 tacos. The music is always loud that makes impossible to have a conversation. Also the waiters are very rude The last time we went to enjoy some beers and food, the moment the last crumb was eaten, the waiter informed us that we had to leave right away so they could seat others. Is this a nice way to treat customers? Add that every time weve gone, weve had problems with the check (not charging the prices on the menu) or theyve made mistakes with the food.

Wow what can I say about this place...Ive been going to this place since it opened because of a friend who took me there, after that it was history. In all honesty the past 6 years that Ive eaten in the restaurant there was never a complain about the food nor the environment. The owner is friendly and the waitress are extremely nice and understandable. This restaurant can turn into a small lounge/party club in the weekends that is if you talk to the owner before hand. Tau Epsilon Phi has thrown numerous successful parties in which no guest have gone out dissapointed. The food is delicious, the drink are not as expensive as other bars and you can watch TV while having lunch or dinner. If your in town or just looking for that perfect place, then look no further Picante is your best best. Theme parties are also thrown by City College students so just be in the lookout

I ordered a burrito and chips & salsa near 4:10pm on a Friday. The order was never delivered, and I will let yall know if I get my money back. The order wasnt here by 5:20 - so I called the restaurant. No one picked up, but they called back to tell me that the delivery person knocked on my door and no one answered. Therere normally not issues with food deliveries to my apartment. The people at Picantes told me that the delivery person would bring the food and a cash refund. It is 6:40 right now, and the delivery person hasnt come. I was posted up at the front door for about an hour. No one came. There are definitely better options (that are still cheap!) in the area.

They now deliver to my address! Thumps up. "If they would have a better customer service, there would be making way more business. Ive eaten a this restaurant many times, and when I finally decided I rather have a delivery, whoever answered the phone, refused to take my delivery order just because I live SEVEN BLOCKS away from the restaurant location. So, they are located on Broadway and 139th, and I live on St. Nicholas ave. and 137th. The lady on the phone asked the delivery guy If he wanted to do the delivery! Are you freaking kidding me! As though of I was calling from Inwood or such!"
