We saw this diner had opened quite recently and liked the look of the design of the restaurant and wondered whether the food would match. One flaw to the design is that they have a lot of huge banquettes that seat about 6 people but a lot of parties coming to eat were much smaller than that and we got directed to the bar instead of a banquette. The bar stool was a little uncomfortable though, would have liked to have had one of those foot rests on the bottom of the stool to rest on. But other than that the place had the whole classic diner look in a spruced up modern aesthetic. It wasnt too noisy, though it wasnt completely full either. The presentation of the food matched the aesthetic as well, kind of diner food, in smaller portion sizes, but spruced up. We had the burger and the grilled BLT on the brunch menu. It was nice and the usual kind of price in Manhattan. It did take a little time to be produced, in the mean time you can watch the staff prepare the food in the open plan kitchen to pass the time.

the place is byob until they receive their liquor license so come prepared. i like what the chef is doing here on a few dishes. there are a few misses as well, but i keep going back for the hits because theyre that good. went for the fried chicken, it was just ok. it has an eggroll wrapping on it thats meant to set it apart. it just adds more breading to it vs enhancing the flavor of the dish. the octopus was ok. puree of potatoes and broccoli as a side dish that was excellent. the pasta is handmade here. the crab pasta is excellent. the tagliatelle is the best thing on the menu. just get it. the shrimp are fantastic. the tomato soups is nice. im looking forward to more great dishes being developed here.

If you arent saddled with a desire for alcohol or are looking for a place free from temptation, this is an excellent option for breakfast, lunch or dinner. With many items that very food forward and fusion heavy, this place does food right in so many ways. This place has a great atmosphere and an excellent menu. This place may not serve cocktails or a alcohol, but it doesnt need to, you come here for the food and if youre looking to drink, go to the bar. If you are looking for a night out, eat a great meal here and then go to one of the many bars in the neighborhood to dance or drink the night away.

I had a fantastic open face BLT here - it was a layer of bread, a layer of spread and bacon, a layer of cheese, another layer of bread, a layer of tomato slices and marinara, and a topping of cheese, with the greens on the side. It was delicious! I also had the Apple cake here - seasonal item. It was also layered, and was so good my friend and I couldnt get enough of it. Excellent service, the cost was reasonable, the location is great, and the restaurant itself is hip and vintage at the same time - totally worth the visit!

The Nickel & Diner has paid great attention to detail when it comes to the aesthetics of the diner from choice of color, lighting, down to table settings. For a diner, they are able to accommodate a party of approximately 6 to 8 individuals that would give you a feel of upscale dining; and for that , I would give an extra 6th star to a 5 star rating. The staff was so pleasant that I would have given them 5 of 5. The prestation of the food was good but is not on my list of top recommendations but worth the revisit.

Amazing hidden gem. Walked by accidentally and noticed this cool and nice looking diner. The menu looked very inviting and the prices super reasonable. Staff super friendly and had the feeling a modern diner but when the food came it felt more like a gourmet high end. Really really well done from beginning to the end. The liquor license is not in place yet but without any charge we were allowed to pick up something 1 block away and enjoy at the table with no extra cost.

Atmosphere is clean and comfortable. Store design is sleek and modern. Overall, beautiful restaurant with a coffee bar closest to the entrance, bar seating facing a kitchen window allowing guests to peek at the chefs at work, and booths with rounded corner benches. My Reuben sandwich had a nice gaminess from the lamb, and the cortado was satisfying. Apple cake was the right sweetness level with clearly defined layers. I am interested in returning to try the brunch.

Sweet barista and staff, very easy going and friendly, which is a nice change for diners in NYC. There are two parts of Nickel & Diner, the front area with four tables and chairs for coffee and breakfast pastries only, and the booth area for full service and full menu, sit-down orders. Great spot, located in the center of Chinatown. Nickel & Diner has strange hours, so be sure to call in advance to check if they are open. On weekends, the place closes by 4pm.

Awhile back my three best friends and I went for brunch and even though we were close to brunch ending the chef still accommodated us. The most amazing shrimp and grits Ive ever had and the biscuits and gravy were great. The owner came to talk to us about the history of the place and the overall atmosphere was great.

Good: Careful, excellent flavors. Unrivaled customer service. Comfortable seats. Very clean. Price was very fair for the quality of the food. Bad: The environment needs some sound deadening technology... I could hear every conversation in the whole place at full volume. I went for lunch on a Thursday.

We just had a private dinner at Nickel and Diner and it was a wonderful experience. The staff were super accommodating of a few special requests and allergies, we were able to play our own music, and every single thing we ate was delicious! Would love to go back. Also, dont miss the mushrooms and the steak.

When I visited they did not yet have their liquor license, but the food was vibrant and exciting. Had an heirloom tomato salad, their fried chicken appetizer (little nuggets of chicken thigh served with cashews and chili sauce) and corn chowder.

Food was really great, service was good. Vibe is a little off: I think they are going for night club when they should go for pleasant restaurant. It could be perfect for dates as well as family meals if they get their vibe right.

Mistake, forgetting I had an outside drink, the waiter was very kind to be. She offers a cup to transfer my coffee. The food came relatively quick. One of the best brunch places Tip: Do not bring outside food/drinks.

If you want fantastic comfort food, great coffee and an interior that rivals 5star restaurants, look no further. Make sure to make a reservation and ask for one of their beautiful booths.

"Place of origin or flavor profile?" The first diner where I heard this sort of question. It was excellent coffee. The space: neo deco techno eco diner. Also excellent--day and night.
